Onboarding checklist

A brand-new organization lands with an empty desk and a lot of doors. The onboarding checklist is a short, guided list of starter tasks that points you at the first few that matter. Our lead detective C. T. Lucky walks the list and the reward attached to it. For parameter-level detail, see the API reference in the sidebar.

The checklist shows up only for organizations created after this feature shipped. An older organization that was already finding its footing sees nothing — the list is for the ones still walking in the door.

The seven tasks

The checklist holds seven starter tasks. None of them is busywork. Each one is a step toward getting real use out of the product.

• Track three competitors. Open cases on three subjects you want tailed. See Competitors.
• Claim your own site. Tell us the domain you call your own. Tracking your own site is free and never costs a coin. See Claim your own application domain.
• Set up a weekly email digest. One short report every Monday. See Dispatches.
• Invite a teammate. Bring someone into the organization. See Invite teammates.
• Create an API key. Mint a key for programmatic access. See API keys.
• Add a webhook. Wire changes into your own stack as they land.
• Create a label. Tag your subjects so the watchlist stays sorted. See Labels.

Seven doors. You only need four.

The reward

Finish any four of the seven and your organization earns a one-time reward of three coins. The reward credits once, to the organization, the moment the fourth task reads as done. It does not matter which four you pick.

The credit is one-time and it sticks. Removing something later does not claw the coins back — drop a competitor down to two and the three coins stay where they landed. The task may flip back to incomplete on the list, but the reward is already yours.

Dismissing the list

Done with the checklist before you've finished it. Any member can dismiss it, and dismissal is for the whole organization, not just the person who clicked. Once it's gone, it stays gone for everyone. No undo on this one.

Reading and dismissing through the API

Two endpoints back the checklist, and the parameter-level detail lives in the API reference in the sidebar.

• Read your progress. A single read returns the state of all seven tasks plus whether the reward has landed and whether the list was dismissed.
• Dismiss the checklist. A single call records the dismissal for the whole organization.
