# How Competitor Tracker works

> Competitor Tracker & Co. reads each competitor's whole site every week, backfills months of history, classifies every change and files one Monday report. The same power is open to your agents over the API and MCP.

Give us the competitors. Every week, our lead detective [C. T. Lucky](/about/) sends a pack of AI agents through each competitor's public site and files the useful changes in one Monday report. Pricing, product, docs, integrations, campaigns, security and corporate signals. The noise stays out. Everything the pack does is also open to your own AI agents over a [REST API](/docs/api/) and [MCP](/docs/mcp/).

## Add your competitors

![Competitor Tracker add-competitors screen with Crayon, Klue, Kompyte, Visualping and Owler pasted in, ready to track.](https://competitortracker.io/img/product/add-competitors-light_hu_f0e8e9e24a23c7d6.webp)

Setup takes up to five minutes. Copy your competitor URLs from a spreadsheet, paste them into one box one per line, and you are done. There is no form to fill in for each one. We read the company name, description and favicon from the first visit, flag duplicates and bad links as you go, and start tracking right away. The app walks you through the rest. You can tag a whole batch with labels as you add it. Claim your own company domain and we track your site free, so you see yourself the way your competitors' trackers see you. Your agents can add competitors too, with POST /v1/competitors or the subscribe_competitor tool over MCP, so you can onboard a whole list from a spreadsheet in one step.

## Competitor history from day one

![A tracked company’s detail page in Competitor Tracker, its case timeline showing the archive baseline pulled from the public web archive.](https://competitortracker.io/img/product/wayback-timeline-light_hu_cd3ae3006c7db285.webp)

The first read starts the second you submit. We capture the site as it stands now and pull three to six months of its history from the Internet Archive, then compare the two. So your first findings, what already moved over those months, often land within about 15 minutes, instead of weeks of waiting for the next change. The backfill shows on the competitor's timeline as an archive baseline, and agents read the same timeline with get_competitor_timeline.

## Competitor website changes we track

Lucky's pack looks for business signals, not every pixel that moved. The categories on file are [pricing and packaging](/features/competitor-price-monitoring/), [product and features](/features/competitor-product-tracking/), messaging and positioning, integrations and API, docs and help center, security and compliance, market expansion, campaigns and offers, and corporate signals. A useful change reads like this: a competitor removed its free plan and now starts at $49 a month, shipped a new integration, or rewrote its homepage around enterprise buyers.

## Automatic competitor page discovery

![A competitor’s Pages tab with page-type badges and how each page was found.](https://competitortracker.io/img/product/pages-tab-light_hu_e73a428ca399193d.webp)

Give us one address and we map the rest of the site, then keep the map current as the competitor adds pages. Every tracked page carries a type, such as pricing, product, docs, changelog, integrations, security, legal or corporate, and shows how we found it, whether the pack spotted it, turned it up while tailing the site, or you added it by hand. There is no sitemap to curate and nothing to redo when a competitor restructures. Agents pull the map with list_pages and can filter to a single page type.

## How competitor monitoring works

You name the suspects, add their URLs and a delivery email. The pack crawls each public site and finds the pages worth watching. This week's crawl is compared against the last one. Meaningful changes are classified, ranked and filtered. Lucky writes the report you actually read.

## How we filter the noise

A useful tracker knows what to leave in the alley. We ignore cosmetic and technical churn: a moved cookie banner, a changed tracking script, an updated footer year, shifted CSS, a compressed image, a tiny layout shuffle. We file business moves: a changed plan, a feature added or removed, a reworded CTA, a shipped integration, docs that reveal a workflow, an updated security claim, a new hiring pattern. The point is not more alerts. It is fewer better ones.

## The weekly competitor report

![The weekly email from Competitor Tracker, headlined Owler led the week with five changes, grouped by priority across Owler, Klue and Kompyte.](https://competitortracker.io/img/product/email-brief_hu_b11c7853891421e0.webp)

The report is the product. Every Monday it opens with the week in plain English, lists the priority changes by category, and files the quiet competitors too. A clean week still tells you the sites were checked. It arrives by email: a default report covers everyone, and admins add extra reports scoped to a label, so a pricing watchlist reaches only the people who own it. Send it to teammates or outside emails, in a dark or light theme, with an unsubscribe link in every message. The same report can arrive by webhook as signed JSON your systems can verify, up to three endpoints per account, each with a delivery log. Every change in the email carries a thumbs up and thumbs down that teaches the pack what counts as worth knowing for you. See one arrive in the [live demo](/demo/).

## Every competitor change on the record

![The change feed with competitor, label, category and priority filters, and classified changes for Owler, Klue and Competitor Tracker with priority badges.](https://competitortracker.io/img/product/changes-feed-light_hu_6ea0ab1766824c72.webp)

![A stored snapshot of klue.com in Competitor Tracker, with Markdown, HTML and Screenshot tabs, its source page and a content hash.](https://competitortracker.io/img/product/snapshot-viewer-light_hu_8174e749931ed2bf.webp)

Every change gets a plain-language description, a priority of high, medium or low, and a category such as pricing, product, messaging or corporate. Filter the feed by competitor, label, category or priority. Each change shows what we compared, including archive baselines months old, and links to the snapshot behind it. Every read is kept as a snapshot with three views: clean Markdown, the captured page, and a full-page screenshot, each carrying its source, capture time and a content hash. One call, list_org_changes with count, gives an agent the week's shape by priority and category, and the Markdown snapshot is a clean-text version any agent can read, current or from months back.

## Organize competitors with labels

![The competitor list filtered by label, the label filter open with Direct, Watchlist and Web monitoring, and chips on Kompyte, Klue and Crayon.](https://competitortracker.io/img/product/labels-filter-light_hu_eb4c6a5738cf418.webp)

Create colored labels and tag competitors as you add them, from a competitor's page, or in bulk from the list. Filter by any mix of labels and search by name or URL. Labels do more than tidy up: they decide which competitors each weekly report covers, so the right watchlist reaches the right people. You can hold up to 150 labels, and full label control is on the API and MCP.

## Competitor tracking API and MCP

Everything on this page works for software too. Every capability is a documented [REST endpoint](/docs/api/), and the [MCP server](/docs/mcp/) puts the whole product in front of your own AI agents: 50 tools across 13 areas, from competitors and pages to changes, snapshots and reports. Connect with one URL, signing in with OAuth or a scoped API key. Scoped keys carry a usage log and grant read or write per area, so an outside app can be handed read-only access, and a key can never do more than the person who made it. Anything destructive needs an explicit confirm, so an agent cannot delete by accident. Setup recipes are [documented](/docs/mcp/connect/) for Claude, Cursor, ChatGPT and a dozen more clients.

## Manage your team

![The Members page showing the owner role and the invite-a-teammate dialog with an email and a role selector.](https://competitortracker.io/img/product/members-light_hu_526ab050151c7a36.webp)

Invite your team by email with a role attached. Three roles keep it clear: owners run the account, admins manage reports, webhooks and settings, and members add competitors and labels and see everything. Claim your email domain and teammates join on their own. Invitations expire and can be revoked, and members, roles and invites are on the API and MCP too.

## Competitor tracking for SaaS teams

Competitive intelligence without running a competitive-intelligence program: one weekly read the whole team shares, not just whoever owns the tool. Founders track pricing, positioning and market moves without a Sunday-night ritual. Marketers watch messaging, campaigns, offers and category shifts before sales hears it from a prospect. Product and ops teams track features, integrations, docs, limits and support changes without turning research into spreadsheet archaeology.

## Start tracking your competitors

Add your competitors and Lucky's pack tails the sites every week. The meaningful changes land in your inbox every Monday. Understand the industry, build better products and position to win.
